Behavior Managment

I use the classroom online management tool called “Class Dojo.” This is an app you will need to download on your phone or tablet or visit the website that you can access on your computer. I use Class Dojo to document positive and negative behaviors throughout the day and also to communicate with you. You are able to track your child’s behavior throughout the school day. As soon as your child earns a point or loses a point, you know right away. You can also send messages to me when needed and I am able to respond, like text messaging. You will receive an access code for your child. You are the ONLY person that can see your child’s behavior and messages that we send back and forth. Please only use this access code for parents or guardians. Please do not share with grandparents other family members or friends. You will be able to see “why” your child received a positive or negative point. I also post pictures and videos throughout the year of fun activities we are doing in the classroom. Every day your child will start with 0 points. If your child shows positive behavior they will receive points and if your child is showing negative behavior they will lose points. At the end of each day your child will add their remaining points to their dojo trackers which will stay in their blue folder. Once your child reaches 100 positive dojo points, they will get to pick a reward. These rewards include lunch with the teacher, stinky feet (no shoes in the classroom for the day), bring a stuffed animal, sit with a friend, extra ipad time, Sprite during snack time, treat from treasure box, and many more. Once your child has reached 100 positive dojo points, a new dojo point tracker will be placed in their folder. Below are my classroom expectations.

Rule #1 Follow Directions Quickly

Rule #2 Raise your hand to speak

Rule # 3 Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the best way to contact you?

Send me a message on the Dojo app, by putting a note in your child's folder or by email is the best way to contact me. My email address is kbalfred@caddoschools.org. I check our class dojo app throughout the day, so that is a sure way you can contact me.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns.

How much is lunch money?

Lunch and breakfast are free for all children throughout Caddo parish this school year. Caddo Parish received a 3 year grant to have free breakfast and lunch. This is the third year for this grant to be in place.

Can I eat lunch with my child?

Yes! We do ask that you wait and not eat with your child the first couple of weeks of school so that your child can adjust to the new routines and procedures. Starting mid-Septemeber would be a great time to come have lunch if you prefer. Parents DO have to pay for lunch. The cost for this is a little over $4.

How much are school fees?

School Fees are $35. You may pay cash for check made out to BES. Please have your child's fees paid by mid September.  If your child's fees are not partially paid by the second pizza day, it is school policy that your child will not be able to participate.

How do I set up a conference?

My conferences times are from 1:15-2:00. You can send a note in your child's folder, call the school, send a dojo message or email me to set up a conference time. I would love to meet with you if you have any concerns at all.

Can I send birthday invitations?

Yes. You can send invitations if there are enough for the entire class.

Can I send my child's snack earlier in the week?

Yes! If you want to send your child's snack earlier in the week that is perfectly fine. Please put my name (Alfred) on the bag of snacks and place on the cart in the foyer of the school. Please remember to send only store bought items. Individually wrapped snacks and SMALL bottles of water.

What if I forget my child's snack day?

If you forget your child's snack, please send it the very next day. Kindergarten students rely heavily on these snacks everyday. Some days I do not have enough extra snack to pass out. Please try and get your snack to school by 9:00 on your child's snack day.

Does my child have homework?

Your child will have homework weekly. This homework will consist of working on skills we are learning throughout the week. You will receive a homework sheet for reading and math almost everyday. It is your responsibility to look for these homework pages and assist your child in completing these and return the following day. These will be checked daily.
