Here is a little bit about me. My name is Kara Alfred. I am 35 years old and have lived in south Shreveport all of my life. I am married to the love of my life, Shelby Alfred. We have been married for 13 years. We have a precious and smart ten year old daughter, Chloe, and a very energetic and sweet five year old, Henry. They are both the light of our lives. I enjoy spending time with my family, shopping, crafting, photography, vinyl cutting and application, church and searching for new ways to teach my students.
I graduated highschool from C.E. Byrd in 2001. Go Yellow Jackets!!!! I graduated with honors in 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. I am certified to teach prek through eighth grade and highly qualified in grades prek-5th. This is my 14th year at Blanchard and I believe it is one of the best schools in Caddo Parish. I taught 2nd grade for three years and kindergarten for ten. I have a passion for kindergarten. It is by far the most rewarding grades to teach. I feel that each one of my students has a special place in my heart. I call them "my kids" because I truly feel like they are one of my own. Be assured that I will love on your child and teach him/her to the best of my ability.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that education is one of the most important aspects to a person's life. That is how indiviuals become something in their life. I believe ALL children can learn. It may be through experiences, discussions, drawing, and much more. I believe that children need a positive, nurturing, and trusting learning environment in order to learn to their highest potential. I believe that giving children positive feedback is much more effective than telling them what they did wrong. I feel that kids need to "be kids" and learn through play. If the activity is fun and they think they are "playing" rather than "working" then they are more interested in learning the skill. I believe Kindergarten is the most rewarding grade to teach because the students grow tremendously from the time they step into the classroom in August and when they are hugging me good-bye in May!
